Animal Assisted Therapy

Animal Assisted Therapy involves the inclusion of animals in the counselling, psychology or occupational therapy fields. It involves specifically chosen activities for the client and the animal to engage in together, with the intention of the client progressing with their therapeutic goals.

Animal Assisted Therapy is different for each individual client depending on their needs. Activities that may be of assistance to the client include:

  • Grooming an animal to develop mutual trust, respect and boundaries or to regulate emotions.
  • Playing games with the animal and learning to follow instructions and maintain safety.
  • Interacting with the animal to experience acceptance.
  • Learning to regulate your own emotions through guiding the dog with theirs.

Fees for counselling including Animal Assisted Therapy are $120 an hour.
